If you are seeing a ‘Blacklist’ rule or encounter the following error message, you may have been ‘blacklisted’ by your contact.
From/To pair violates a blacklist rule…
This could happen due to several reasons:
- Your contact may have sent out a text message to their carrier to block certain numbers trying to reach them, which may have included your number.
- Your contact may have sent you a single-word text message with the keywords such as:
- 'STOP'
- ‘CANCEL’
- 'QUIT'
- 'UNSUBSCRIBE'
These keywords trigger an automatic block that prevents them from receiving any outgoing messages from your number. This is the standard reply that they should see: "You have successfully been unsubscribed. You will not receive any more messages from this number. Reply START to resubscribe."
To remove the ‘blacklist’ rule, you can try the following with your contact:
- If you know the person that you are trying to contact, you can tell them to send a text message to your number with the keywords 'START', ‘YES’ or ‘UNSTOP’. This should unblock your number, and your contact should be able to receive messages from you subsequently.
- This ‘Blacklist’ rule is a common policy implemented by many SMS carriers in the United States. As this issue is between the person you are trying to reach and their respective carrier, we are unable to assist in this matter.
